Sleep in Whistler Backpacker HostelBuilt for the 2010 Olympics as part of Athletes Village, the HI Whistler hostel opened after the Olympics. The building is very well designed and very modern, with rooms that look and feel more like hotel rooms than hostel rooms. There is free parking, free wifi, bike rentals, laundry facilities, a pool table, an amazing sundeck, games room and common room.

The HI Whistler is open year-round and the room rates vary depending on the season. A dorm bed rents for $29-$32 and a two person private room goes for $96-$109. With a great cafe in the lobby that great for eating as well as drinking, you have everything you need in one building. They have local beers and a variety of coffee and tea choices. The common areas are pretty amazing as hostels go. There are even outdoor sundecks with pretty amazing views of snowy mountains all around!

The only possible drawback to the HI Whistler is its location. It is 8 kilometres south of Whistler Village. If you have a car, bike or don't mind taking the bus, the location won't be much of a problem. Buses run nearly 24 hours and if you have a bike, the Valley Trail system runs right by the hostel. A wide, mostly paved, two lane, multi-use trail that snakes through Whistler near all the amazing sights. If you stay at the hostel in the winter you will likely be heading up snowboarding or skiing. If you are at the hostel any other time of the year, you will find yourself in a hiking and biking paradise. Hiking and biking trails emanate from the hostel in all directions. The extraordinary Whistler Train Wreck is just a short walk from the hostel. The Cheakamus River trails also start very close by as well as Logger's Lake and the trailhead and gateway to Garibaldi Provincial Park(Cheakamus Lake trailhead).
